In the heart of a bustling farm, 10 year old Fyn Frecklewood feels like an outsider among his spirited family. He finds solace in the simple joys of farm life especially insects and plants. When his father sprays the apple orchard with a deadly insecticide, Fyn decides to escape to his favourite refuge, Frecklewood Farm.

Back at the farm the family is planning a treasure hunt to unearth a long held rumour of gold which was buried by an ancestor under a special tree, the Fingerley tree.
Fyn’s sister Fifi is the only one to notice that Fyn has disappeared and she hatches a plan to follow him.
